  • How do you know when you're ready?

I was reading the blog about how to know when you're ready to be done having children, and it made me want to ask you, "How do you know when you're ready to start having children?"

My husband and I have been re-evaluating our timeline for when we want to start a family, based on some friends of our's getting pregnant in a rush (6 months after they got married, and on purpose!). We've been asking our parents and anyone else we can, "how did you know when you were ready to have kids?" or "how long did you wait before having kids?" (2-4 years after marriage seems to be the average). We don't want to miss out on enjoying "just the two of us," and we think we have some things we'd like to do before starting a family (some travel). I also value my sleep quite a bit. Obviously there are a whole bunch of things we've taken into consideration about our decision on when to start a family, so I want to know...

How did you decide it was time to start having kids? If you have kids now, looking back, would you have changed your decision at all? What do you feel is really important to take into consideration when making this decision?
